I get excited when I see someone hand quilting a quilt, don’t you? Hand quilters are a dying breed. Visit any quilt show and you’re bound to see that close to 75 percent of the quilts have been machine quilted! We need to bring attention to the hand quilters of the world and celebrate hand quilting!
I’d like to put a list of quilters on Michigan Quilts! who are predominately hand quilters, but I need your help. If you are a hand quilter, let us know!
Find a blog post you’ve already written – or write a new one – that includes a picture of a quilt you have hand quilted. Use the link below to tell us the NAME OF YOUR QUILT and YOUR NAME, and direct us to your blog post by giving us the address to that post. This is pretty easy to do – I know you can do it! I’ll start us off by providing a link to a quilt I have hand quilted.
Feel free to grab the Celebrate Hand Quilting button to put on your own page as well!
Check out these wonderful hand quilted quilts, then add a link to one of your own hand quilted quilts. Please, only one link per person!
I love to hand quilt but haven't done so in a while. I don't think I've ever blogged about it so I would have to write a new one.
I am preparing to bring my hand quilt frame up from the basement and set it up between my two living rooms. I think it is some of the most beautiful quilting.

I just finished hand-quilting a very small quilt – I'll do a post about it in a few days, I'm going to put your button on my sidebar. Hand-quilting is by far my favorite, but in the interest of time, if I need something done quickly, I machine quilt it. It's never as good as handquilting though!

I used to hand quilt almost exclusively, but injury encouraged me to learn some machine skills [still working on that part…lol]. My heart will always belong to hand-quilted-quilts. Guess I am just a traditionalist. Good luck with this project; I think it is a very nice idea!

In September I finished my first hand quilted lap quilt for my sister in college. The only other hand quilted quilt was one I made when I was a little girl for a doll of mine. I'm working on hand piecing my next quilt, who knows how long that one will take. LOL

I'm not very good at making links but everything I do is by hand. Yes, I have noticed most stuff these days in shows is maching done, piecing and quilting and fused applique with ravelling edges, and thread painted wall art.

Good idea! I love hand quilting and have only had minor attempts at machine quilting. Hand quilters are a dying breed – everyone seems to want to finish quilting as fast as they can and don't seem to want to go slowly and enjoy the process – it can be relaxing and not frustrating in least as a lot of quilters seem to think it is.

you are right there are more machine then hand quilted. One quilt guild in Toronto is well known for their hand quilting, this year there was more machine. It is the sign of the times everything has to be done in a hurry. I do love hand quilting and will continue to do so thanks for the great inspiration.

I can't seem to make the hand quilt button show up on my blog. A blue question mark appears and it clicks to this page, but apparently I don't have the image location address correct. Can you help?
Thanks!

Hello! I just found your blog. I hope my post about my big stitch quilting is ok. I do traditional hand quilting, too. Hand quilting gives the quilt a very different look and feel, I think. I love it!

I am a professional machine quilter and I do love to see hand quilting. I personally haven't any myself for many years, but love the look.
I think many quilters enjoy the look and the process, so we may see more as the years go on.

I love this linky! I started hand quilting last January when I just couldn't face cramming one more quilt through my sewing machine. Now I'm addicted. I love the soothing activity in the evening and the way the stitches can really enhance your look. Yes, it takes more time and I produce less … but I feel like my quilts are much more “me”now.

I love to hand quilt most of the time. If a quilt will get a lot of abuse, then I succumb to machine quilting. From time to time, I will sometimes combine machine quilting and hand quilting in the same quilt.
At one recent quilt show here in Toronto, there were actually quite a few quilts that were hand quilted which is so rare these days.
Thanks for doing this …. it will be such a joy to visit other blogs to see their quilts!

I had to react on this one.. I saw nr. 32. Klosjesquilt by Rose Marie. Well my name is official Rose Marie too ( everyone calles me Roos ) and I'm making a klosjesquilt too. So you understand that I was a little surprised. It's a good thing to promote the handquilting, it's a kind of yoga to me and in the Netherlands there are a lot of handquilters. It tooks a little longer to finish a quilt but then you have a real peace of handwork.
Greetings Roos

I went to a quilt show last year or the year before and asked someone if there were any hand quilted quilts since I had viewed all the quilts and couldn't find one. Ah, but yes, there was one – and only one. I had missed it probably because I got fed up with all the machine work and started to look at the patterns and colours only. Years ago machine quilted quilts were a rarity and now it's reversed. Sad really but I guess the quilters coming up are all in a hurry.

Hi there,
actually I do both, hand quilting as well as maschine quilting. It depends on what quilt I make and how it looks. Quilts with lots of appliques or English Paperpiecing I like quilted by hand a lot more.
I am from Germany, so I write mainly in German, but on my (Work-)Blog I also write in English.
If you are interested come and visite my blog: http://lintlady.blogspot.com/ or http://Lintessa.blogspot.com/
Thanks for starting this Unite.
Happy stitching :o) Doris

What a Marvelous Idea! Thank you- going through the list I recognize the names of my closest blog-friends from around the world. How amazing and humbling to be counted in such a group. I know I make quilt-tops so I can hand-quilt them- It's my favourite part of the whole process and love how these quilts become stitched with memories of my family's everyday life. Thank you for this initiative! Hand-quilting in Cyprus, Valentina

I always have my current hand quilting project close by. I love hand quilting because my heart, time and thoughts are quilted into them. When I quilt a special quilt for someone it is truly a gift of love. I was thrilled to see quilters comment from other countries. I am warmed that I share the love of quilting with women on the other side of the planet.

Wow Im so glad to see this site. I mostly make small things placemats table runners and wall hangings. I take pride in the skills I learned from my grandmother and great aunts. Hand quilting is my creative therapy after a hard day at work. No pics of finished stuff since I seem to give them as gifts to every one.
