Quilting in December

photo 2

I have been very busy hand quilting on my Feathered Star quilt over the past few weeks! With quilting, Christmas preparations and my “quilting buddy” always taking up my lap, (see picture of Stormie the cat, left), the amount of stitching has been limited, even though I’ve been quilting about 5 evenings per week! I hope you are finding some time to stitch!

Here are a few pictures of what I’ve accomplished:

The first photo shows some little brass pins scattered around… several have been removed in this area as I was quilting.  I baste with these little pins (I’ve been doing this for over 35 years, and it works very well for me!)

I use the blue wash out markers when the fabric is light enough.  They have never failed me!

Here is a look at the back… it will show what I’ve done so far.

back2We had a gift exchange at work on Thursday. We drew names, and when I opened mine I was amazed! Ryan looked at my LinkedIn profile and saw that I was a quilter. He did SO well, didn’t he?!?! Thanks for the stack of fat quarters, Ryan!!!

I’ve excited to have signed on to do a lecture and teach hand quilting for the CAMEO Quilt Guild in the Troy, Michigan area in October 2013.

CAMEO stands for Come and Meet Each Other.

More details to come in January!

The snow has arrived in Michigan!   We haven’t had very much, but it is definitely winter now.  Here is a shot out my living room window.  Can you see three cardinals in the tree?

Wishing you and yours a

very Merry, Blessed Christmas…

wherever you are!

I’m still here

Did you think I fell off the planet?  No.  I didn’t.  Just feeling drained lately, not much to report, and being busy. That’s all.

I made it to the AQS show in Grand Rapids and really loved the exhibits.  I’d show you some of my favorite quilts, but they have this icky policy that says you can’t post photos on the Internet.  I’ve seen other blogs with photos, but I’ve always usually been a rule follower, and AQS was the publisher of my first book. so I won’t tempt you with gorgeous photos.  I will say that I was very proud of Tim Latimer’s beautiful hand quilted quilt that you can see on HIS blog. He took the photo… it’s his quilt, so feel free to click on it and take a good look without being chastised.
I enjoyed getting together with my friend Annemart Brendske as well.  What a fun time we had.  Far too short, but very fun!

We took a nice ride on the motorcycle yesterday and headed down to the French Laundry for breakfast.  OMG, if you live in Michigan and haven’t ever been there, please go!   They won’t clean your clothes for you, but the food is out of this world!
After a great breakfast we explored the area south of Fenton and ended up at Heavenly Scent Herb Garden.  Oh my gosh!  Absolutely gorgeous place!

They had a big fairy garden with miniature items and plants that was SO gorgeous.  Here are a few photos, taken up very close…
